Creators: Ying Deng Supervisor: Dr Victoria Hanna Date: Sep 201 2 to Dec 2012 Background: The intricacy and size of any firm’s flexibly chain has made the administration of gracefully chain advancement troublesome and loaded with uncertainty. However the quick creating market requires the flexibly chain to advance as quick and productive as could be expected under the circumstances. There are measures of fruitful and bombed instances of advancements across gracefully chain from the only remaining hundreds of years, yet it is a major test to effectively deal with the developments. Reason: The motivation behind the theory is to explore what Fujifilm did and is doing to create in the worldwide condition and with all the inside and outer factors’ impacts, additionally what it most likely will or ought to do later on to keep up its present status and to improve. Conclusion: After assessing Fujifilm’s history and current circumstance alongside its ongoing showcasing criticism information, likewise alluding to rich promoting hypothes es and books, we will propose Fujifilm to take different acts and systems to stay serious and keep up and increment its piece of the overall industry. Catchphrases: Supple chain, Innovation, Management, Evaluation, Risk, Implementation, Buyer-provider power, Product life cycle, Pre-and Post-authoritative, administration and physical merchandise, developing and develop industriesThe â€Å"18 months law† (Gorden E, Moore, 1965) had proposed and been demonstrated that the electronic market pairs its product’s work while parts its costs. Different ventures, while perhaps more slow than the hardware yet comparatively quick evolving, recommends, that the organizations enhance in each potential viewpoints inside and identified with themselves, to fit into the quick pace of today’s dynamic world with the data blast, to find the expanding globalization, savage cost rivalry, expanded client interest for upgraded quality and reliability.Studies and encounters show that R&a mp;D spending is firmly emphatically connected with the likelihood of presenting another item, and the vast majority of the organizations are eager to put resources into the R&D exercises to make the inner developments (BRDIS information, NSF 11-300). In any case, aside from the inner R&D, the development can likewise be increased both from the flexibly chain itself, for example, by re-sorting out assets or upgrading circulation frameworks, and different finishes over the gracefully chain, for example, improvement from end-users’ input. One of the notable models is P&G's Continuous Replenishment Planning (CRP).The organization Proctor and Gamble changed the whole worth chain by driving requests dependent on DC withdrawal and deals information that effectively improved its administration and diminished expenses over the gracefully channel (Roger C. Vergin, and Kevin Barr, 1999). The immediate client input determines advancement, for example, the general item idea, and the planning of the dispatch to bundling and conveyance (Kevin O'Marah, 2005). Other run of the mill models including developments brought about by improved sequential construction system, for example, the Ford Company in the mid 1910s, and cutting edge innovations and procedures, for example, the upgraded Ocean delivering compartment by Malcom Mclean in the 1956, etc.According to Porter’s five powers hypothesis, the business is influenced by its providers, clients, new charms and new substitutes (Micheal E, Porter, 1979). Gracefully chain as it represents, is normally viewed as the progression of assets and items from the provider, through the firm, to the clients. Gracefully chain interfaces the provider, the business and the end (clients), as one of its key natures. Different highlights incorporate its multifaceted nature brought about by the way that businesses’ item assembling or administration giving generally includes more than one provider and customer.Thes e realities lead to the high chance of developments from the gracefully chain. Not just has the physical goods’ stream in the gracefully given chances of advancement, yet in addition the data stream from the other way of the physical merchandise. The wellsprings of development are basically closed as â€Å"push† and â€Å"pull† (Clegg, Juliana and Pilkington, 2011). The â€Å"push† represents mechanical open doors that breed the development. The â€Å"pull† represents advertise needs that ask for development. Additionally, there are more than the two sources, for example, guideline change, users’ criticism, staff, etc.Innovation across gracefully chain can be from both to the â€Å"pull† and â€Å"push† reality similarly as the instances of Ford and P&G individually. As expressed over, the tremendous wellspring of development of gracefully chain and from the flexibly chain gives an incredible pool of thoughts and potential. Be that as it may, in like manner, the assortment likewise raises the issue of whether a particular advancement really suits the business and the business, and whether it can really satisfy the point of innovationâ€to make the benefit ascend, to fulfill stakeholder’s interests better by changes, for example, diminished expense or included value. The size of gracefully chain raises the vulnerability of a development. This carries us to the conversation of difficulties in overseeing advancement. How to assess the reasonableness of a gracefully fasten advancement to a firm? Will there be any potential requirements to the advancement in the gracefully chain? How to manage the planning issue of the assessment? Will this development be hazardous in any piece of the flexibly chain, from the provider to the client? Development can fundamentally be arranged into four kinds: Product, Process, Position, and Paradigm (4P’s).Whichever it is arranged into, advancement can be char acterized as another thought, or the recombination of old thoughts, or a plan than difficulties present request, or a recipe, or an interesting methodology (Van de Ven, 1986:591). Most instances of the basic advancement are R&D departments’ new item plan. This kind of advancement are typically founded on cautious statistical surveying, worked after nitty gritty investigation of benefit and potential hazard, discharged into the market after intensive constrained scoop test and preliminary. model) During this procedure, the staff of the firm can increase full comprehension of the plan, and the structure can be changed at any phase of the procedure to fit into the firm’s desires and the market’s current patterns. Additionally, as this kind of advancement beginnings inside the firm, the principle timing issue of it will lay on the dynamic need and innovation of the outer market condition, while the thought of competitors’ impersonation/substitute can be s imilarly lower as all the subtleties could be kept in house or by patenting. On the other hand, developments from the gracefully chain could be unique. As the advancement can lay in any piece of the flexibly chain, for example, an improved data trade framework, or the appropriation system’s change, the development will require exhaustive assessment procedure to choose its appropriateness, for example, the Farbey et al. (1993) and Farbey and Finkelstein (2000) IS implementation’s assessment system. The impact of the advancement probably won't fit into the firm’s showcase condition and its current situation’s strategy. One of the most significant parts of the gracefully anchor the executives is to contemplate the purchaser provider power connection, to lessen cost and increment estimation of the flexibly chain. Developments over the flexibly chain, regardless of whether it is a data update or framework change or utilization of new innovation, they can impac t the force connection of the gracefully chain, attractively or unfortunately. Positive changes to the force connection can help the firm increase a good situation in or after the procedure of procurement/marking of contract.Taking the thought of purchaser provider power move before an advancement is embraced is essential to the achievement of its usage. The force relations, influenced by data, shortage and utility, can really choose the gainfulness of the creation and hazard conveyance between the firm itself and its providers and purchasers. In the event that the advancement to the gracefully tie brings down the risk to explicit flexibly of materials, for instance, at that point the firm’s purchaser po

Make or Buy Decision Essay

Taiwanese advanced cell producer HTC Corporation is thinking about redistributing assembling to different organizations to improve its productivity. Prior to building its own image, HTC focused on assembling low-end advanced mobile phones for organizations like Apple. Notwithstanding, as of late, HTC has been feeling the squeeze from investors to decrease costs as a result of deficit net working salary for the second from last quarter of 2013. Presently, HTC needs to change its technique; they need to focus on the innovative work of very good quality advanced mobile phones and redistribute a portion of their low-end PDA creation to build their adequacy and lower the expenses. In the advanced cell industry, so as to improve productivity, it is significant for the telephone creators to construct more commoditized items and all around re-appropriate a few items to makers who can deliver less expensive items. Nonetheless, similarly as the Yuanta Securities investigator Dennis Chan says, there are numerous variables that impact whether to settle on the choice to redistribute. HTC certainly needs to consider numerous variables to choose whether they will keep making items or re-appropriating (Dou, 2013). Issue Identification The case above is discussing how HTC experiences another circumstance about whether to keep delivering advanced cells or re-appropriate them to other assembling organizations. All things considered it is a â€Å"make or purchase decision† issue in bookkeeping. Settle on or purchase choice is a choice to do fabricating an item in-house or buying it from an outside provider. As each organization goes under expanding strain to decrease expenses and increment their arrival on resources, it demonstrates an expanded significance to supervisors whether to keep the exercises, even the key parts, in-house or redistribute them (Gambino, 1980). Redistributing is a significant part in settle on or-purchase dynamic. For HTC, if the creation cost is a lot higher than redistributing the low-end advanced mobile phone to different organizations, or it doesn’t have adequate creation ability to deliver it inside, re-appropriating appears to be a superior decision for the organization. Be that as it may, in the business world, it is difficult to decide if a settle on or-purchase choice is useful for the organization; there are numerous elements to consider. The accompanying part will depict the elements which affect settle on or-purchase choices. Bookkeeping Method Explanationâ€Make-or-Buy Decision Settle on or-purchase choices happen in business when an organization needs to conclude whether to create merchandise inside or to buy them remotely. This ordinarily is an issue when an organization has the ability to make items or they can buy the items available. While breaking down a settle on or-purchase business choice, it is important for chiefs to take a gander at a few elements. The examination must analyze altogether the entirety of the costs identified with assembling the items just as all the costs identified with buying the item. 1. Quantitative components and Qualitative elements. The settle on or-purchase choice includes both quantitative examination and subjective investigation. Quantitative elements can be determined and thought about; emotional judgment and various feelings are required when we need to look at some quantitative components. Additionally, we have to think about different variables from all edges when the settle on or-purchase choice is utilized, in light of the fact that a portion of the elements included can be measured with sureness, while different components can't. Quantitative elements incorporate things, for example, the accessibility of creation offices, creation limit, and the entirety of the assets required. Variable and fixed expenses are additionally significant elements while investigating the settle on or-purchase choice. So also, quantitative expenses likewise remember the cost of the item for the commercial center. The examination between the creation cost and buying cost is one of the most significant procedures in investigating the settle on or purchase choice. Subjective elements are more hard to quantify than quantitative components and progressively emotional judgment should be mulled over. For instance, the notoriety and dependability of the providers, the chance and the probability of changing or turning around the choice later on, and the since a long time ago run viewpoint with respect to creation or buying the item are largely commonplace subjective elements. In the HTC re-appropriating case, distinguishing and getting the quantitative and subjective variables is the initial step. To begin with, for the quantitative part, the variable and fixed expenses of creating the advanced mobile phones must be mulled over. Normally, factor costs incorporate direct materials, direct work, and variable overhead. Likewise, we have to gather the information about the compensation paid for laborers a nd bosses, devaluation of the hardware, and the allotted general overhead. The buying cost of advanced mobile phones which the supplierâ offered is another necessary factor when contrasting creation cost. Also, for the quantitative part, HTC needs to do a great deal of research to know whether their provider has a decent notoriety and unwavering quality, and examination the advantages and expenses in the event that they decide to buy the advanced mobile phones from the provider as opposed to delivering them. 2. The examination should likewise isolate important expenses from insignificant expenses and take a gander at the pertinent expenses. When settling eager for advancement or-purchase choice, it is important to recognize applicable and insignificant expenses. Pertinent expenses for making the item are altogether the costs that could be kept away from by buying the item. An avoidable expense can be dispensed with in entire or somewhat through picking one option over another. In the HTC case, by deciding to buy advanced cells from another provider, the ex pense of assembling the telephones can be maintained a strategic distance from. In all actuality, open door cost is exceptionally regular while thinking about the applicable expenses. Opportunity cost is the potential advantage that is surrendered when one option is chosen over another. Take the HTC case for instance; if the advanced mobile phone producing offices are inert, and the organization acknowledges to re-appropriate the PDA, the open door cost is zero and it implies there is no effect on the cost identified with the open door cost. Be that as it may, if the organization chooses to utilize the office to deliver another sort of item, the open door cost brought about. As indicated by the various circumstances, it might change the manager’s choice. Superfluous expenses are the costs that will be caused regardless of whether the item is fabricated inside or bought remotely. There are two sorts of classes of unimportant costs when we settle eager for advancement or-purchase choice. The first is suck cost, which is constantly brought about during the activity procedure and can't be maintained a strategic distance from paying little mind to what choice the administrator makes. In the HTC case, the assembling offices have been bought; regardless of if the advanced cell is made or bought from a provider, the expenses of the assembling offices (fixed expense) have been caused. Another immaterial expense is future cost which has no effect on the other options. Following the HTC case, the organization needs to advance the PDA through notice so as to increase large deals. On the off chance that the organization will apportion a similar advertisement charge to the advancement paying little mind to creating them or buying them, the future expense is an immaterial cost when settling on the choice. The examination should likewise consider the accessibility of the item and the nature of the productâ under every one of the two situations. Other factorsâ€such as the accessibility of the item and the nature of the item under various alternativesâ€are additionally significant for a director to settle eager for advancement or purchase choice. Following the HTC model, if the organization decides to create the advanced mobile phone inside paying little mind to their lack underway capacity, it can prompt low quality items or low proficiency underway. In a since quite a while ago run point of view, the organization may not settle on a decent choice. So as to get increasingly precise data about the items and the providers who can offer reasonable costs and great items, the organization needs to do look into. This incorporates interior research and gathering business information from outside expert think-tanks which can give progressively exact data. References Dou, E. (2013). Patients with this disorder have gotten a bad reputation, thanks - in part - to the movie Fatal Attraction. BPD tends to be poorly misunderstood as it is, so to say that the main female character in Fatal Attraction represents a typical BPD sufferer is unfair and unrealistic.   Criteria for the Diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder   A diagnosis of borderline personality disorder is made by a mental health professional using the  Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition (DSM-V) criteria established by the American Psychiatric Association. In order to be diagnosed with BPD, you must meet five or more of these nine symptoms: Frantic efforts to avoid abandonment, whether real or imagined and experiencing extreme emotions when any abandonment is perceived.  Having had unstable and intense interpersonal relationships that involved both extremes of idealizing the relationship (Hes perfect for me!) and not valuing the relationship (I cant stand him!).Not having a stable self-image or identity.Engaging in impulsive and risk-taking behavior such as spending money, having unsafe sex, substance abuse, reckless driving, binge eating, and the like.Repeated suicidal behavior or threats or self-mutilation.Having extreme and intense moods, such as irritability, anxiety, or depression that last from a few hours to a few days.Continual feelings of being empty.Having anger issues, including intense anger that is inappropriate for the situation, inability to control temper, being angry all the time and/or engaging in physical fights.Feeling disconnected from your mind or body and having paranoid thoughts when youre under stress, leading to potential psychotic episodes. Who Develops Borderline Personality Disorder? Recent research has shown that many people diagnosed with BPD are trauma survivors. Genetics may also play an important role in developing BPD. Studies show that if you have a parent, sibling,  or child with BPD, your chances of developing it yourself are five times greater. There also appears to be neurological impairment in people with BPD, meaning that certain areas of the brain do not communicate well with other areas. Borderline personality disorder usually starts in adolescence or young adulthood. An estimated 1.6 percent of adults deal with BPD  though that number could be significantly higher. Females are typically the population that is diagnosed, but studies have shown that males have tended to be misdiagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or depression instead of BPD. Treatment There are several psychotherapy approaches that have been proven to be helpful in borderline personality disorder. One of these, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), is an approach that combines techniques from several approaches  and takes advantage of a combination of group and individual therapy. Though the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved the use of any medications to treat BPD, some physicians prescribe them to BPD patients to help reduce certain symptoms like depression or anxiety.   Find Help From the 9 Best Online Therapy Programs Living With Borderline Personality Disorder Being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder means you have taken your first step to getting your symptoms under control. Role Of Society In The Awakening Novel - Free Essay Example

In the book The Awakening, the author Kate Chopin utilizes compelling symbolism to portray the protagonists, Edna Pontelliers, longing for passion and escape from the confines of marriage. In the late 19th century of New Orleans, Edna is unlike other women in the sense that the marital and maternal life doesnt appeal to her. As a woman plagued by the desires for freedom, she realizes her inevitable limitations in life, and ultimately defies Victorian societal expectations of her domestic female role. As Edna begins to stray from her assigned duties as a wife, mother, and the conventions of Victorian society, she feels as though the ocean invites her soul to wander, spurring determination within her to be free; adrift and anchorless in the running sea. In an age anchored by stress and personal anxiety, the ocean acts as a symbol for freedom and rebirth. This recurring symbol throughout the text emphasizes Ednas detachment from the social norm of the times as well as emancipation from tradition and prejudice, guiding her awakening to passion, and the pitfalls that come with it. In The Awakening, the sea reflects and advances Ednas rebirth, and her growing sense of her individuality. The connection between Edna and the ocean is complex, sensual, and deep, as the voice of the sea pulls her towards it with its promises of freedom. Edna Pontellier, a young woman who is married to Leonce Pontellier, a successful New Orleans businessman, with two young sons during the Victorian era of 1899, seems to find herself in a semi-conscious state, completely separated from reality.   She is comfortable in her marriage, but desperately longs for passion and excitement. In a conversation between Edna and her friend Adele Ratignolle, the epitome of 19th century womanhood, Edna recalls an incident of running through a meadow that seemed as big as the ocean to the very little girl walking through the grass, which was higher than her waist (Chopin 194). Chopins allusion to the ocean emphasizes the voice of the sea which pulls at her with reminiscence of her childhood. A time in her life where she was just following a misleading impulse without question, a time where she was not yet obstructed by societal norms and just followed her desires spontaneously (Chopin 195).   During this particular conversation, for the first time Edna began contemplating the reason behind her misery.   She lives a comfortable life with her husband and children, but the thought of them lacks the feelings of pleasure and love that she should have for them. She believes that its her fem ale duties that are holding her back, preventing her from running across the wide expanse of grass. Edna admits that it was this summer where she felt as if she were walking through the meadow again, unthinking and unguiding, as the sea urges her to only seek out her aspirations in life. When Edna takes a dip in the ocean for the first time and learns how to swim. A feeling of exultation overtook her. She grew daring and reckless, overestimating her strength. She wanted to swim far out, where no woman has swum before (212.) She is so confident in her swimming abilities and bathes gayly in everyones admiration and applause, until she feels as though she swam too far. At this point she becomes aware of the aspect of a barrier which her unaided strength would never be able to overcome (213.) Her sudden doubt in her abilities represents her fear of the unlimited freedom she wants so desperately, having to shed everything she has in her quest for selfhood. The ocean acts as a key symbol guiding her awakening to passion as well as an awakening to unfamiliar pain that comes with it. Her emancipation from the societal norms of her domestic female role allows her to really feel alive, ridding herself of the dream like state of reality she has become so accustomed to living; however, in the pursuit of love and passion, she is introduced to the rollercoaster of emotions that come hand in hand with it. Edna persistently connects the ocean with a certain personal free will drawing her towards freedom, whilst encountering staggering difficulties sparked by societal expectations of victorian life for women. The voice of the sea is seductive; never ceasing, whispering, clamoring, murmuring, inviting the soul to wander for a spell in abysses of solitude; to lose itself in mazes of inward contemplation (190.) Chopin demonstrates the oceans invitation to her soul, to wander anchorless in the running sea. As Edna lies tearstruck in the shadowy anguis h of the night, the mist is lifted from her eyes, enabling her to comprehend the significance of life. The ocean is the setting for Ednas midnight thoughts since its where she first establishes her sense of self-ownership. In control of her body, she becomes aware of its potential for pleasure and learns to claim her right to self determination. Chopin uses symbolism in The Awakening to explore the independence of womanhood in Edna. Seeing as she can no longer survive merely as a wife and a mother, confined to the unspoken laws of Victorian society, she decides to take matters into her hands. Towards the end of the novel as the depart of her lover, Robert, melts her out of existence, she is urged towards the waves that invited her. How strange and awful it seemed to stand naked under the sky! How delicious! She felt like some new born creature, opening its eyes in a familiar world that it had never known.(350.) Seeing as if she had already lost everything, Edna gives in to her longing for freedom, abandoning the life she had known. She stands naked in the open air, letting the sensuous sea enfold her body in a close embrace as she swims out to sea. She thinks of all the people that her life consisted of as she swims out into the ocean and states that the artist must possess the courageous soul that dares and defies Edna defi ed all the cultural assumptions of the women of the late-nineteenth century and drowned in the depths of the sea as exhaustion took over her. In the process of removing her clothes and taking her life, she stripped herself of every last thing placing limitations on her life. Death represents the only aspect of her life that she can take complete control over. The ocean is Ednas final escape from society.

Such resources include but are not limited to: audio books, books in Braille, large-print books, technology, and other supplementary materials to meet the various needs of special needs students. K Pop s Shady Business Secret Essay - 1239 Words

K-pop s Shady Business Secret The Korean pop or K-pop industry over the last decade has experienced a major increase in popularity that has made it a billion dollar competition for foreign music industries. They are especially known for their extravagant music videos and visual aesthetics, which have attracted worldwide followings. K-pop companies are also infamous for being brutally strict on training and restrictions for their trainees and idols. They fixate on the business growth over the musical talent and content. The problem that stems from creativity and commerce overlapping in the Korean pop industry is the unethical treatment of its trainees along with the racialization and exploitation of idol groups in different global markets, due to the commanding force of the industry. The last decade has seen the rapid globalization and popularity of the korean entertainment industry worldwide, which is known as the Hallyu wave. It expanded into international markets through social media platforms such as Youtube, which served as a method of free mass distribution, securing many international fans. Having recently broken into the American and European market, K-pop exists as Korea’s biggest export, the industry itself being worth $3 billion. This results in creativity being determined by how much business flows into the industry internationally. Is The Safe Harbor Law Essay - 1641 Words

The Safe Harbor law is there for many human trafficking victims, it not only provides assistance for human trafficking victims, to heal from the trauma of this crime, but this law also allows juvenile judges to hold hearings to determine whether a minor is a human trafficking victim and a procedure to temporality set aside the complaint for a crime such as prostitution or other related offenses. The safe harbor law is to try to ensure the safety and wellbeing of minor human trafficking victims. I would like to look into what procedures are set in place for minor’s vs adults, men vs female, because not only are children taken but adults are also, or they just are â€Å"stuck† in the world of human trafficking. Even though no matter how much we do someone will always find a way to continue this crime of human trafficking, but th e more we are aware of such things the more we can prevent and protect the victims. Analysis Of Frankenstein By Mary Shelly - 1098 Words

One of the most popular formats for literature is a hero faced with seemingly insurmountable struggles who is able to overcome these obstacles and live ‘happily ever after’. However, some of the most famous books in literature have an extremely different structure to their stories. These books center on characters of questionable moral integrity, who through their own poor decisions bring about their own misery and often ultimate demise. When examined this theme of self-destruction can be seen in many of what are considered the greatest books in western civilization. One of the books where this theme can be seen is in the popular horror story Frankenstein written in 1816 by Mary Shelly. Question: How can Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc., increase customer loyalty, employee morale and profits while using sustainable and responsible ingredient sourcing? Answer: As a business, it is important to not only focus on the financial benefits but also safety for your customers. This is the main idea behind social responsibility. Such that the models used are within the spirit of the law, national (or international) norms and adhere to ethical standards (AMP, 2013). Promoting and supporting organic agriculture is a responsibility of businesses, especially for those dealing with food like restaurants. Similarly, naturally raised poultry and meat ensures that customers do not suffer from the effects of added antibiotics and hormones. The easiest way of achieving sustainable sourcing, production and services to customers is to educate the latter on the need and advantages to health. Researchers have shown that there are significant changes in consumer trends- healthy diet tops the list (AACN, 2015). Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc had a vision of changing the way people eat and think about food. Thus they decided to change processes of sourcing for ingredie nts used for preparing food. Introduction As time changes, the world is witnessing a shift in consumer preference. More importantly, there is a need for businesses to create ways of meeting the change in consumer preference (Hubble, 2017). According to the 2015 Supermarket Guru Grocers Association Consumer Survey, 50% of Americans would like have healthier foods with less processing and a shorter list of ingredients (Hubble, 2017). Also, 53% of Americans want locally prepared food (IMO, 2001). Meaning, consumers now want more fresh foods, prepared with less ingredients and from places they know (Hubble, 2017). The shift in consumer preference has made it a necessity to have alternative platforms that can deliver foods considered fresh and healthy to the consumers. Chipotle Mexican Grill is a pioneer in the fast-casual restaurant industry. It was founded in 1993 by Steve Ells. Since then, it has grown to be among the leaders of the restaurant industry (Gold, 2005). Currently, the company has more 1600 restaurants within the US and 11 internationally. In 2000, under the leadership of Steve Ells, Chipotle made a commitment to serving customers with food sourced, produced and served through sustainable and responsible approaches (Gold, 2005). However, because of lack of effective strategy, took too long to fulfill this promise to customers. For example, in 2015, the restaurant recorded a loss because consumers questioned the quality of the food and cleanliness of in-store practices (Gold, 2005). This called for the need for Chipotle to implement integrated resource management techniques. Doing this enhanced customer loyalty, employees morale, increased competitive advantage and profits, and attracted big investors. Application of Resource integration technique Vertical Integration through Hyper-Local restaurant technique Chipotle had a vision of serving food to consumers with integrity. This would change the way people thought and ate food. This program means the companys supply chain and corporate culture will have to be closely integrated from the time the ingredients are grown, harvested and shipped to stores (Christopher, 2016). Thus appeal to socially responsible customers deepens through the latter knowing how chipotle sources for its food. Hyper-Local restaurant is new in the food service industry. It involves the restaurant growing own food in its backyard. It is a food service business that grows ingredients in its own property. It may be a rooftop garden or backyard. This technique is a product of vertical integration where a business proactively participates in controlling the raw materials, production and the sell of goods. Chipotle Mexican Grill encouraged sustainable and responsible sourcing through the application of Hyper-Local restaurant method. Thus, the set aside some piece of land in their backyard and started growing food ingredients used in the restaurant. Chipotle chose this method because it was cheaper compared the cost of buying ingredients from farmers. Also, it made management and control of the business easier. To make Hyper-Local restaurant more effective, the business used Integrated Plant Nutrition Systems approach in applying this technique (Gold, 2005). Apart from being economically viable and environmentally sound, this process was also conducive to the urgently needed increase in production of healthy food (Mason, 2013)s. As farmers, Chipotle used feasible and adequate mineral and organic inputs. Similarly, they applied Integrated Pest Management method. This ensured that the level of pesticides on ingredients was low. They also applied ecology-based principles in methods of cultivation. This includes predator/prey relationship and pest life cycles. This helped in reducing the cost of ingredient production and risks associated with excessive use of pesticide (Kolk, 2016). Although promising, this technique had an impact on the labor cost. Thus, the company needed to employ more people to work in three areas: packaging, pesticides and fertilizer. In 2012, a Deutsche Bank reviewed one hundred academic resources, fifty-six research papers and two literature reviews (Souza, 2013). The report showed that 76% of businesses that used environmental, social and governance activities gained competitive advantage (Gold, 2005). Similarly, more than 73% companies worldwide take part in corporate responsibility. Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc., operates in a very competitive environment. The food industry has grown thus leading to shift in market dominance. Before, the company could be comfortable with sourcing for ingredients from environmentally unverified sources and maintaining low food prices to attract customers. However, because of availability of capital and emergence of rapid technological inventions, Chipotle could not afford to sit pretty while competitors gained mileage. Analysis of Results, Critique and Recommendations Results To measure the results of vertical integration, Chipotle used Value Stream Mapping (VSM). This is a lean supply chain tool employed by Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc., to separate wasteful and necessary value-adding activities. The method is used to identify all types of waste in the value stream chain and methods of eliminating them (Shorr, 2014). Resource managers also cite this to be one of vertical integration technique strength. In case of a machine breakdown, the use of a dynamic scheduling technique such as right-shift heuristics allowed farming processes to continue by simply altering the production schedule (Toyota Motor Corporation, 2016). Similarly, to reduce risks associated with labor size, the business contracted farm training operators to equip laborers with multi-tasking skills. This way, the process of ingredient sourcing would not be interrupted incase a laborer fell ill (Gold, 2005). Multi-skilled employees trained to do tasks on machinery at different levels of manufacturing caused an increase in employee labor rates because vary of years of service, contract negotiations and positional status (Mazutis, 2012). Consequently, the value of optimal assignment was affected. Nevertheless, this technique yielded fruits for Chipotle. For example by 2010, 100% of pork, chicken and beef served in the restaurants were naturally raised. Also, beans served to the customers were organically grown. By 2014, the company gained recognition for serving customers food made by ingredients sourced through responsible and sustainable means (Gold, 2005). This is also the moment when Chipotle customer loyalty came to test. Because of the increase in food production cost, the company had to increase its food prices. Surprisingly, having seen the results of sustainable and responsible sourcing, Chipotle customers embraced the change. Consequently, the company made profits; despite increasing prices. Strategy formation in organizations needs concerted efforts. More importantly, it needs careful implementation. Failing to do this can be a great setback. Chipotle knew that their mission is to change ways in which people think and eat fast food (Gold, 2005). Therefore, they sought ways of ensuring customers are served fresh food made from ingredients sourced through sustainable and responsible ways (Gold, 2005). For example, they started serving naturally raised pork, beef, and chicken and organically grown black beans. Because of the nature of the strategy, they had to increase food prices by one dollar. Because of the nature of the technique, the company had to increase its food prices by $1. Critique Implementation of vertical integration strategy is not for the faint hearted. It takes long and require close monitor to establish progress. Moreover, it has tendencies of being expensive, especially for an organization that has not dealt with it before (Dickey, 2017). Chipotle majored in preparing and serving customers with meals. In terms of sourcing, the company sought suppliers. However, after realizing that 50% of the food they served was being sourced through unsustainable and irresponsible means, they decided to create a backyard farm in most of its restaurant to help in production of ingredients (Gold, 2005). Of course this came with cost. For example, the company had to purchase farming machineries and seek the services of suppliers for seeds and fertilizers. Additionally, they had to the cost of construction and training laborers on responsible and sustainable processes of farming. At the beginning, Chipotle experienced a decrease in profits. After conducting an assessment of cost, Chipotle management realized that they had spent $ 2 million in production (Gold, 2005). This led to a consequent decrease in profits. This was shocking. Although they had seen strong evidence that consumers wanted food prepared by ingredients sourced through sustainable and responsible means, there was no reflection in sales (Gilmour, 2013). This shows the importance of conducting a thorough market research to understand the target market of a strategy. It enables a business to better understand the attitude and values among both loyal and potential customers (Grant, 2016). Strategies that lead to increase in cost are often avoided by companies that fear losing customers. Nevertheless, if a company chooses to implement any of them, then it should ensure that the anticipated results will impress customers beyond doubt. Recommendations The performance of a business depends on stability in its supply chain. This is possible through balance and collaboration in supply, management and delivery. Therefore Chipotle can invest heavily in staff so that the latter can contribute to efforts of growth and development within it (Wynstra, 2013). A motivated employee is the best for persuading customers to continue being part of a brand. For example, when Chipotle decided to serve naturally raised chicken, beef, pork and organically grown black beans, there may have been resistance within some section of the staff (Gold, 2005). However, through open communication, inclusion and responsible management, they chose to embrace it and be part of its implementation (Grant, 2016). Similarly, organizations should include employees in strategy formation and implementations to enable effective and efficient results (DoorDash, 2017). Chipotle should seek the services of an integrated information system to enable free flow of information a nd resources in its supply chain. In conclusion, this report was based on a case study of Chipotle Mexican Grill., a fast food restaurant. T experienced decrease in sales because of not being cautious about the methods of ingredient sourcing by suppliers. Therefore, the management implemented Hyper-Local restaurant, a form of vertical integration technique in the food industry to promote responsible and sustainable ingredient sourcing. Although the company had to increase food prices, it still made profits because of customer loyalty. References AACN. (2015, January 23). Health Reform: Put Patients First. Pangea Essay Example For Students

Pangea Essay The Shifting of PangeaHave you ever noticed that a map of the world looks like a puzzle and the continents look like the pieces that would fit together to complete the puzzle. In 1912, Alfred Wegener, a German scientist and an adventurer, came up with a theory that the continents had once been part of a supercontinent. Wegener proposed that, over 200 million years, what he called Pangea had separated and became individual pieces. Pangea means all lands in Greek, and that is what Pangea was, a very large landmass when all of the continents were connected. When Wegener first proposed this idea in 1912, people did not buy into this theory. One of the problems that Wegener faced was that he believed that the continents had drifted apart, but he couldnt explain how they had drifted apart. Another problem was that there was a theory already in place called the Contraction Theory. This theory stated that the Earth was once a molten ball and in the process of cooling, the surface cracked and folded up on itself. One of the problems with this theory was that it suggests that all mountain ranges were the same age, and this could not be true. Wegners explanation was that continents shifted and these shifting plates would collide, encounter resistance from one another, compress, then fold upwards to form mountains near the edges of the plates. Eons ago India and an ancient ocean called the Tethys Ocean sat on a tectonic plate. This place was shifting northward towards Asia at a rate of 10 centimeters per year. The ocean got progressively smaller unit about 55 million years ago when it collided with Asia. There was no more ocean left of lubricate the subduction and so the plates formed the High Plateau of Tibet and the Himalayan Mountains. Evidence that Pangea may have existed can be found in land animals, vegetation, mountains, and the climate. Fossils and plants that are the same, can be found on different continents, across oceans. Assuming that the land was once connect ed, animals could have walked across the large land mass and not have to swim. For example, the mesosauras (a land animal) could not have traveled from South America to Africa because of the Atlantic Ocean. Yet, there are fossils of this animal on both continents. Another example is there are trees in South America, Africa, India, Australia, and Antarctica that are of the same origin. How would the seeds have traveled over so many different continents? One explanation is that the lands were once connected. Other evidence is the formation of mountains. The Appalachian Mountains are found in North America as well as the British Isle and Scandinavia, which is now separated by the Atlantic Ocean. The mountains are of the same age and structure. More evidence why scientists believe in the Pangea hypothesis is the climate. Since the Southern Hemisphere was once by Antarctica and the Northern Hemisphere was once by the equator, the climates were different than those we know today. There is evidence that ice sheets once existed in the Northern Hemisphere. The temperature of the earth hasnt changed much, but the location of the continents have. The earths core is made up of nickel and iron ball encompassed by an outer shell of molten metal. After that is a space of rock call the mantle. In the first part of the earths existence, an outer layer of hot rock cooled to make the earths surface, or the lithosphere. The top layer, which is the most brittle, of the lithosphere is called the crust. Over millions of years the earths crust has cracked making huge stone slabs called plates. There are seven large and dozen smaller plates. The plates seem to float on the mantle and move around when the plates around them cool and move. The places where these plates come in contact with one another are called faults, or fault lines. At these places of impact, there is much seismic and volcanic activity. At the location were plates collide against each other the plates can at in three different ways: they can push against each other and form mountains; they can slide past each other sometimes starting earthquakes; or one can dive beneath the other, when this happens the descending plate can melt and rise up and form a volcano. The plates are still moving, and the Atlantic Ocean will be much larger in 50 million years and the Pacific Ocean will be smaller. North and South America will have moved farther west, while Greenland will have moved farther northwest, the western part of Africa will rotate clockwise and run into Europe. Also, Australia will move farther north into the tropics, while New Zealand will move to the south of Australia. .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662 , .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662 .postImageUrl , .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662 , .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662:hover , .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662:visited , .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662:active { border:0!important; } .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662:active , .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662 .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u25a78c264a0efa8deb14d921a3f4f662:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Labor Issues Essay These are just predictions and these movements of the continents may only happen is the plates continue to move in the direction that they are currently moving, and at the same rate of speed.
